March 16, 1964 - New Beatles Single May Be Best Yet!

After getting home from school today, I had my mother rush me over to the record store. In case you didn't know, Capitol released a brand new Beatles 45 with two great new songs!

The A side is an exciting Paul rocker titled "Can't Buy Me Love." It's nice to see that all that money hasn't gone to the Beatles heads. Paul sings "I don't care too much for money, 'cause money can't buy me love." The song shows how great a rock 'n' roll singer Paul is. George plays a great guitar solo too! I think this may grow to be my favorite Beatles song ever!

The flip side is also great. John sings lead on a song titled "You Can't Do That." John tells his girlfriend she can't do things that would make him jealous. (I wouldn't mind John telling me I had to be exclusively for him! I know he's married, but if he ever breaks up with Cynthia, I'm available!) The song has a catchy guitar part and really rocks during George's guitar solo. I'm really getting to appreciate how great a guitar player George is.

The only disappointing thing about the 45 is that the picture sleeve has the same picture as "I Want To Hold Your Hand." I was hoping for a new picture of the group to put on my wall.

While I was at the store, I looked at the new issue of Billboard. The Beatles have the top three songs with "She Loves You," "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "Please Please Me." These songs will soon be joined by "Twist And Shout," which was recently released on a 45 on a company called Tollie Records. ("Twist And Shout" is, of course, not a new song. It is on the British "Please Please Me" album and the Vee-Jay album.) I bet "Can't Buy Me Love" will also be a big big hit.And "Meet The Beatles!" and "Introducing The Beatles" are still at the top of the LP chart. I'm so proud of the Beatles!!!!!

Well Paul tells us that money can't buy love, but it can buy the new Beatles 45. And I love the new songs, so money can buy me something I love. I can do that!

March 10, 1964 - Beatles riding high on the charts!

Hello again! I haven't added a blog entry for a while because I've been very busy working on a science project for school. As much as I love the Beatles, I realize I need to do well in school so I can go to college and take journalism courses. Anyway, there isn't as much to report since the Beatles are back in England. Although I miss the Beatles being in America, it's OK that they're in England because they are making a movie that should come out this summer! I can't wait to see it. My dad thinks it will be stupid, but I know it will be great just like everything the Beatles do.

Debbie and I went to the record store to see what Beatles news Bill had. He showed me the new issue of Billboard which shows the Beatles have the top two songs on the Hot 100 for the third week in a row! That's so cool. I'm so proud of the Beatles. I Want To Hold Your Hand is #1 and She Loves You is #2. And Please Please Me is #4! Bill thinks next week it will move up to #3, thus giving the Beatles the top three songs on the national charts! That has never happened before. The Beatles also have the top two albums, Meet The Beatles and Introducing The Beatles. Those albums were also at the top last week.

Bill told me to come back next week because he was going to get in some records from Canada. He said the discs might have some songs on them different from those in the United States! He warned me that they would be more expensive because they were being imported from Canada. I hope I can afford to buy the. The good news is Debbie's mom will buy them for her so I'll get to hear them. I'll let you know what is on the discs as soon as I get to hear them! Check back in a few days!

February 24, 1964 - I miss them already!

The Beatles have only been gone a few days and I already miss them! Last night was the last time we’ll get to see them on TV for quite a while. This has been the most exciting few months of my life! I still have all those great Beatles records to play and it is still a thrill for me every time I hear a Beatles song on the radio! And I know they will be releasing new records for the rest of this year. And I know they will later come back to America. Still, I wish they were staying in New York for good.

Most adults I know were impressed with how the Beatles took America by storm, but they think that by the summer everyone will have forgotten the group and move on to the next fad. I disagree. The Beatles will never fade away. I promise you that!

Now that they have left America, I probably won’t be adding a new blog entry each day, but I will add blogs whenever I get Beatles news or just feel like sharing my thoughts with you. Best BEATLES wishes!

February 23, 1964 - Beatles on Sullivan for the third and last time (for now)

Tonight the Beatles were once again on the Ed Sullivan Show. That’s three weeks in a row! Boy did I get spoiled. As Ed Sullivan said, we’re so darn sorry they have to go back home. He said some really wonderful things about the Beatles. Sunday will never be the same.

The Beatles opened with a rocking version of Twist And Shout. I just love it when they shake their heads and go "Woooo!" That was followed by Please Please Me, which is also one of my favorite songs. After a bunch of other acts, including puppets, comedians, a clarinet player and Cab Calloway, they did I Want To Hold Your Hand. I taped the Beatles songs on my dad’s tape recorder.

I am also proud to report that Debbie and I were shown for a few seconds on the show bopping up and down in our seats and screaming! We were on national TV! It’s too bad they don’t make machines that can play back programs shown on television. I’d give anything to be able to watch the Beatles over and over again! And it would be neat to see myself on TV again!
