February 6, 1964 - Tomorrow is B-Day!
I’m so excited. The Beatles arrive tomorrow! Everyone had trouble concentrating in school today! Even the teachers were talking about the Beatles! Several of my classmates said they’re skipping school and going to the airport tomorrow to see them arrive.
After school I bought a really neat magazine called "Beatles ’Round the World." It’s got a bunch of terrific pictures and neat stories about the Beatles. I then went to Debbie’s house and got some incredible news. Debbie’s mom got a room at the Plaza! That’s the hotel where the Beatles are staying! Debbie and her mom will check in tomorrow morning and be there for a week. It must be great to have that kind of money! They invited me to stay with them. My mom says I can miss school on Friday and stay there with them through Sunday, but I have to go to school next week. I just knew mom and dad wouldn’t let me down!
Tonight WINS kept telling people to go to the International Arrivals terminal at Kennedy Airport tomorrow to see the group arrive. The plane lands at 1:20 p.m. Debbie’s mom is picking me up at nine in the morning. First we’ll check in at the Plaza and then go to the airport. This is gonna be the greatest day in my life! I doubt I’ll sleep much tonight.

February 5, 1964 - Beatles Itinerary!
WINS announced the Beatles travel plans. The group arrives this Friday, February 7, at 1:20 p.m. at John F. Kennedy Airport. The airport used to be called Idlewild, but it recently changed its name in honor of President Kennedy. The Beatles are flying in on Pan Am flight 101. It’s too bad my pilot uncle doesn’t fly to London anymore. Wouldn’t that have been cool if my uncle was the pilot for the Beatles! Anyway, I just gotta get to Kennedy Airport this Friday! I don’t care if it’s a school day! And get this, they’re staying at the Plaza Hotel. That’s a real classy place located right by Central Park.
Debbie says her mom is gonna let her miss school this Friday. I’m working on my parents now. Dad says he’ll "think about it." I’ll never forgive my parents if they make me go to school and miss the Beatles arrival.
February 4, 1964 - The Beatles will be on Sullivan three straight weeks!
The New York Times ran a story today stating that CBS had announced that the Beatles would be on The Ed Sullivan Show for three successive Sundays! This is so neat. Three Sundays in a row! The article said CBS got more than 50,000 requests for tickets! I really fell lucky that I was able to get tickets!
Everyone at school is so jealous of me. I’m the only girl in my class with a ticket! Stephanie, who is a year ahead of me, got two tickets to the actual show. My ticket is for the dress rehearsal. Stephanie will give me a full report on what it is like being in the studio audience for the broadcast.
February 3, 1964 - This is the week!
As everyone in America knows, the Beatles are coming this Friday! I had trouble sleeping last night. All the girls in school are so excited. Even a lot of the boys are interested.
Bill called me from the record store to tell me about the Beatles My Bonnie single. He found out from a promo man that the songs on the MGM 45 were recorded about two years ago before the Beatles were famous in England. At the time, they sometimes served as the backing band for a singer named Tony Sheridan. (I was right, it isn’t a Beatles singing lead on the 45. It’s Tony Sheridan.) The songs were recorded in Germany!
Bill told me he just got in an album that says it’s by the Beatles, but that it only has four songs by the Beatles. And Tony Sheridan sings on three of those (My Bonnie & The Saints that are on the 45, plus a song called Why). The forth is an instrumental called Cry For A Shadow. Bill says it’s pretty good and that it was written by John Lennon and George Harrison. The rest of the songs are by either Tony Sheridan or a group called the Titans. I don’t think I’ll buy this album as the only thing new and interesting is the instrumental written by John and George. I’m sure my friend Debbie will buy it because she can afford it. I’ll tell you about it after I hear it.
