January 25, 1964 - Beatles will be here soon!

Debbie, Brenda, Judy and I spent the day listening to both Beatles albums on the stereo console at Debbie’s house. We’re so excited we’ll get to see the Beatles in person on Ed Sullivan! We fantasized about meeting the Beatles in New York and going on a horse and buggy ride with them in Central Park. Debbie and I were with John and Paul. Brenda and Judy were with Ringo and George. It was so romantic! Afterwards we took them ice skating and them to a diner for cheeseburgers, French fries and chocolate milk shakes. (I wonder if they have cheeseburgers and milk shakes in England.) Then we went to a club in the Village to go dancing. I bet they are great dancers and that they shake their heads and let their hair go wild! We just gotta figure out a way to meet them. I know we would show them a great time!

January 24, 1964 - Beatles album getting rave reviews

I’ve gotten a slew of email from people raving about the new Beatles album, Meet The Beatles! Here’s a sample:

Suzi from Annapolis: “I love this album! I would have bought it just for the cover, but the songs are great too!”

Cam from San Francisco: “I got the album on Tuesday and haven’t played another record since! It won’t leave my turntable until the next Beatles record comes out! My stupid big brother won’t admit the album’s great. I think he’s jealous because all the girls love the Beatles!”

Sarah from Denver: “After seeing the Beatles on Jack Paar, I fell in love with them. The new album is super! I’ve already played it dozens of times!”

Bruce from New Orleans: “I get a haircut every Thursday. (I’ve had a flat top crew cut since kindergarden.) Afterwards I got my mom to take me to Studio A record store. I talked her into buying me Meet The Beatles by promising to clean my desk at school. After seeing that album cover, I want to wear my hair like that! When I got home, I borrowed my sisters’ record player and took it into my room. The album is as great as you said it was. I like that they write their own songs. Lennon-McCartney is like Leiber-Stoller, who write for the Coasters. The Beatles album is just one great song after another. I hope my sisters don’t ask for their record player back any time soon!”

January 23, 1964 - Beatles tabloid is full of neat information!

I brought a bunch of those Beatles tabloids to school today and boy was I popular!! Nearly everyone wanted one! I ran out before homeroom even started. As promised, here’s my report on the Beatles tabloid. The front page has a story called “How It All Started,” which tells the story of how the Beatles got started. The Beatles did not used to have those cool suits and long hair. They wore black leather jackets and looked like characters in a Marlon Brando film, but without the motorcycles! (I guess they the article means the film The Wild One, where Brando plays a character called Johnny, who is the head of a motorcycle gang.) And they weren’t always called the Beatles. Their older names included the Quarrymen, the Moondogs and the Moonshiners. And that’s for starters. More information from story will be added to my Beatles bio. Another front page story is called “What Britain Says.” There is also a box called “Show Biz Miracle.” The tabloid also has information on each Beatle. I will add a biography for each Beatle when I get the time. The articles on each Beatles are interesting, but there is one embarrassing problem. Whoever added the pictures of each Beatle messed up royally. John’s bio shows a picture of Paul. George’s bio shows a picture of John. Paul’s bio shows a picture of George. At least they got Ringo right!!! There is also an article on the Beatles haircut.

January 22, 1964 - Neat Beatles tabloid available for free!

Bill called me today and said I should come to the record store for a surprise. When I got there he showed me a really neat tabloid newspaper called the National Record News. It was a “Special BEATLES Issue.” I’ve never heard of this newspaper before, but I’m glad they put out a Beatles special. It has lots of pictures of the Beatles and really neat information. I’ll be adding the new information to my site as soon as I find the time to do so. (I go to school during the day and have to do some homework at night.) Bill said the Capitol sales rep brought him two big stacks of the tabloid. Believe it or not, the paper is free!!! I don’t know how the publisher expects to make money giving a paper away for free. I would have gladly paid a quarter for it, maybe even a dollar! Bill said the Capitol guy told him to hand out copies to his customers. I asked Bill for a copy, but he told me I could not have one. When I began to complain, he said the Capitol man wanted me to have a whole stack to hand out at school!!! I can’t believe how nice that sales rep is being to me. I think he may have a crush on me! But I’m saving myself for Paul. I’m gonna keep a few copies of the tabloid for myself and give the rest to my friends and anyone else who wants one.

Bill then told me he got in 20 copies of the She Loves You single. I already bought it from Bill several weeks ago, but the new ones Bill got came with a picture sleeve. It looks really sharp and I’ve added it to my She Loves review. For those of you without a color monitor, it is red at the top. I bought the single just for the sleeve even though the picture on it is the same as the one on the back of the Meet The Beatles! album. It’s that cool. I’m putting it on my wall next to my other Beatles picture sleeves.
Before I left, Bill showed me the new issue of Billboard, which had I Want To Hold Your Hand at number 3, up from 45 the week before. Bill was sure it would be number one next week.
